Japan Wall Pocket Very Colorful Bird Perched in Trees & Flowers Majolica Style

Description

Glazed primarily in navy blue, a colorful bird, rendered in firey orange, red, blue, green and moss rest among a canopy of trees and orange, white and yellow flowers and their foliage. All of these elements are raised, or articulated and make for a strikingly beautiful scene. The wall pocket is marked on the reverse with the impressed or blind Made In Japan back stamp as shown and described in Carole Bess White's book on Made in Japan ceramics. The piece is in excellent overall condition with no known cracks, hairlines, chips, repairs or fleabites and was probably produced during the Art Deco period. It measures approximately 7.5" tall by 4 7/8" wide at it's widest and 3" deep. White spots, if any, are camera glare.
